Bishop's 2008 Lenten Message

Lenten Image My brothers and sisters: greetings to you at the beginning of our Lenten season.  This is Bishop Don Kettler.

Our age is saturated by television and movies, breaking news and glaring headlines. The message is largely gloomy.

Lent has always been a time for us to share in Jesus' sacrifice and to emotionally walk with Him in the desert.  Often we do this by giving up sweets or coffee or something else we find we just can't live without.

Let me suggest something else you might try during Lent; every day take a half-hour break from the television and visit with God.  Open up the Bible; find a passage where He speaks to you and answer him.  Prayer is a conversation with our heavenly Father.  Maybe making time for Him during the next forty days will prepare you for the really Good News that somehow never makes media headlines: Christ is risen.
