Religious Education Certification Program

These are the required courses and workshops for Religious Education Certification in the Diocese of Fairbanks.

LEVEL I - BASIC CERTIFICATION
 
Workshop 1

Vision and Methods of Religious Education
(Including Catechesis for Persons with Disabilities)

Workshop 2
Overview of Theology and Doctrine of the Catholic Church
Spirituality of the Catechist


LEVEL II - ADVANCED CERTIFICATION - THEOLOGICAL STUDIES
(18 hours per course)

Course 1 - Theology Component Overview (Echoes of Faith)

Course 2 - Introduction to the Old Testament

Course 3 - Synoptic Gospels and the Gospel of John

Course 4 - Acts of the Apostles, the Epistles and Missionary Journeys of Saint Paul

Course 5 - Foundation and History of the Catholic Church

Course 6 - Theology and Rituals of the Sacraments

Course 7 - Liturgy, Prayer and Worship

Course 8 - Morality and Catholic Social Teachings


The following workshops and courses are now available on video tapes or DVDs.  Parishes or individuals may borrow these. Resource materials will also be provided.  On completion of each workshop or course a certificate will be given.

II. ADVANCED CERTIFICATION

Theology Component (Echoes of Faith Program)

This includes: The Creed; Overview of Scripture; Sacraments and Liturgy; Morality; Prayer and Spirituality. This series includes a video and workbook on each topic.

The Synoptic Gospels and the Gospel of John
This includes videos from Paulist Press and the four Gospels by Rev. Michael Himes as well as videos of Sister Dorothy's lectures of each session.  There are worksheets and handouts for each session.

Foundations and History of the Catholic Church

This is an overview of the foundations and history of the Catholic Church from apostolic times to the twenty-first century. This includes videos from Fisher Productions on the history of Christianity, videos on Vatican II and DVDs of Sister Dorothy's lectures and worksheets and handouts for each session.

Acts of the Apostles, the Epistles, and the Missionary Journeys of St. Paul
This includes all the writings of the New Testament with the exception of Revelation. There are videos and DVDs from Paulist Press and DVDs of Sr. Dorothy's lectures and handouts for each session.

Overview of the Old Testament

This is an overview of all the books of the Old Testament. This course includes videos and DVDs from Paulist Press, DVDs of Sr. Dorothy's lectures and handouts for each session.

ONLINE COURSES
Online courses such as the C-21 Online Boston College IREPM and University of Dayton VLCFF are acceptable for certification with approval of the Diocesan Religious Education Office.
